Description:

The Minister for Children, Mary Hanafin, T.D., launched the Government’s Youth Homelessness Strategy on 31st October, 2001. The goal of this strategy was: “to reduce and if possible eliminate youth homelessness through preventative strategies and where a child becomes homeless to ensure that he/she benefits from a comprehensive range of services aimed at re-integrating him/her into his/her community as quickly as possible”.

The development of this strategy was identified in The National Children’s Strategy which was published in November 2000 and complements the government’s strategy on adult and family homelessness “Homelessness – an Integrated Strategy” which was also launched in 2000.
