For information about the provision of substance misuse services in September, see the social inclusion section, pages 8-11: ââ,¬Â¢ No. of clients in methadone treatment (outside prisons) ââ,¬Â¢ No. of clients in methadone treatment (prisons) ââ,¬Â¢ No. of substance misusers (over 18 years) for whom treatment has commenced following assessment ââ,¬Â¢ No. of substance misusers (over 18 years) for whom treatment has commenced within one calendar month following assessment ââ,¬Â¢ No. of substance misusers (under 18 years) for whom treatment has commenced following assessment ââ,¬Â¢ No. and % of substance misusers (under 18 years) for whom treatment has commenced within one week following assessment ââ,¬Â¢ No. of pharmacies recruited to provide Needle Exchange Programme ââ,¬Â¢ No. of unique individuals attending pharmacy needle exchange ââ,¬Â¢ No. of pharmacy needle exchange packs provided ââ,¬Â¢ Average no. of needle / syringe packs per person ââ,¬Â¢ No. and % of needle / syringe packs returned Tobacco Control (p.6 & 7) ââ,¬Â¢ % hospital campuses with tobacco-free policy ââ,¬Â¢ No. of smokers on cessation programme who were quit at one month ââ,¬Â¢ % of smokers on cessation programme who were quit at one month ââ,¬Â¢ No. of smokers who received intensive cessation support from a cessation counsellor ââ,¬Â¢ No. of frontline healthcare staff trained in brief intervention smoking cessation ââ,¬Â¢ No. of sales to minors test purchases carried out A summary is contained in the supplemental report: Health Service: National performance assurance report (p.20) Substance misuse ââ,¬Â¢ The expected level of service in 2013 is that 8,650 clients would receive methadone treatment. ââ,¬Â¢ 9,034 clients received this service (excluding prisons) for the September reporting period which includes 3,735 patients being treated by 324 GPs in the community. ââ,¬Â¢ Methadone was dispensed by 581 pharmacies catering for 6,149 clients for the reporting period. ââ,¬Â¢ At the end of September there were 72 HSE clinics providing methadone treatment and an additional 10 clinics were provided in the prison service. ââ,¬Â¢ 92 new patients commenced methadone treatment during September (50 in General Practice, 33 in HSE clinics and 9 in prison clinics). ââ,¬Â¢ 921 people over 18 years commenced treatment following assessment during the reporting period. 96% received their treatment within one calendar month (DML 91%, DNE is 100%, South is 96%, and West 100%). ââ,¬Â¢ 75 people under 18 years commenced treatment following assessment during the reporting period. 93% received their treatment within one week (DML 100%, DNE is 100%, South is 81%, and West 100%). Pharmacy needle exchange programmes The objective in 2013 is: ââ,¬Â¢ To recruit 130 pharmacies. As of the end of the reporting period there were 87 pharmacies recruited. ââ,¬Â¢ 250 unique individuals attending pharmacy needle exchange. As of the end of the reporting period there were 871 unique individuals attending. ââ,¬Â¢ To provide 1,650 needle exchange packs. As of the end of the reporting period there were 2,212 packs provided. ââ,¬Â¢ To provide an average of 90 needles per unique individual per quarter. Currently we are reporting 59 needles per unique individual.
