Description:

FitLine is like a smokers quit line, except it gives you the information and encouragement you need to get more physically active. It is a free service for over 50s.You can get information about clubs, groups and facilities in your area. They can help you to work out an activity routine that suits your lifestyle. Or if you just want to chat, they have lots of ideas about how you could do simple things to get some healthy activity into your routine. Once you’ve made the first call, their mentors will ring you every few weeks for as long as you’dlike them to. They’re volunteer older adults themselves who’ve been trained to motivate and encourage you to be active. The World Health Organisation has recognised Go for Life FitLine as a good example of how to encourage people to be physically active. The seal of approval is very encouraging as although Go for Life FitLine is based on a successful American model it was adapted for Ireland and tried for the first time in county Louth.
