This programme aims to encourage young people in the age range 5 – 15 to adopt Healthy Eating and to develop awareness of the importance of balanced eating and regular enjoyable exercise to promote a healthy lifestyle.

 

The programme was designed so that young people could gain a new insight into and appreciation of the impact on their lives of healthy eating and regular exercise and were provided with training and education highlighting the importance of healthy eating together with regular exercise and physical activity.

 

The programme was divided into three elements

1          Multi-skills training session using The Belfast Brigrade Broncos model of increasing young peoples’ physical literacy skills.

2          An educative session where information on the necessity for balanced eating, together with eating the right foods, e.g. using the eat well plate template.

3          A practical session where young people, adult leaders and parents experienced fruit, vegetables and other foods prepared in different ways.

 

At the conclusion of the programme, approx. 700 young people plus adult leaders and parents engaged with the programme
