Description:

A one day course on the basics of HIA covering the reasons for undertaking HIA, making it useful for prediction and assessing risk in HIA, understanding the role of stakeholders, the reasons for participation in HIA and ways of achieving it, the basic steps in HIA, and the HIA report.

The course is intended both for those who plan to undertake HIA and for those who commission HIA. The ways in which HIA can add value to decision making will be critically examined. Both practical and theoretical difficulties will be explored. A mixture of formal presentations and workshop discussions will be used to explore the contributions of different disciplines and the assumptions and values that underlie HIA.
