The purpose of this Framework is to

  1. set out the policy context for the use of nursing and midwifery performance indicators (PIs) to demonstrate the relationship between inputs and outcomes/impact;
  2. provide guidance on PIs including clarifying the relationship between Structure, Process and Outcome PIs; and
  3. ensure that there is a standardised approach to their development, prioritisation, endorsement and implementation.
