Predicting Clinical Course in Adolescent Restrictive Eating Disorders: The Relative Contribution of Admission Weight Compared to Weight Loss

Purpose: Increased rates of hospitalization have been observed in adolescents who have lost weight and meet all criteria for Anorexia Nervosa (AN) apart from underweight. These adolescents are diagnosed with partial syndrome eating disorder using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM IV) or Atypical Anorexia Nervosa (AAN) using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM 5). Currently, the association of admission weight compared to weight loss with clinical outcomes is unknown in either diagnosis.
