[Perspectives] The chemotherapy experience

Every 30 minutes on a Friday morning I greet another nervous patient whom I have never met before at the door of my consulting room. I know the clinical particulars from the referral letter and from the discussion at the multidisciplinary team meeting: “I've seen your scans”. While briefly checking symptoms and past illnesses and performing a cursory examination (more therapeutic than revelatory), I try to ascertain what this individual really wants to know about chemotherapy.
