India to set up 80 new units to boost medical research

India’s government has approved a scheme to strengthen research in medical colleges and to increase the use of evidence based diagnostics and practice. The plan from the Department of Health Research of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare includes the establishment of multidisciplinary research units in 80 medical colleges over the next two years, 35 in 2013-14 and 35 in 2014-15. Financial support will also be provided to improve training for health research.
