ICGP seeking ambitious substantive CEO

The ICGP has officially advertised for the position of the CEO to find a substantive replacement for Kieran Ryan, who has left the College to take up a new position with the RCSI.

In the meantime, the College has appointed its Chief Operating Officer Dermot Folan as acting CEO until a permanent head is appointed.

The ICGP is now seeking an ambitious chief executive, who will promote general practice and contribute to shaping health policy through interaction with the Government, and the public and health sector, while creating and maintaining links with partners and key stakeholders across the entire range of the ICGP agenda and relevant health care sectors.

Reporting to the College Board, the person appointed will be responsible for promoting and managing the ongoing strategic development of the ICGP, in addition to providing oversight and co-ordination of all College functions at both an operational and strategic level.

According to the advertisement, the new Chief Executive will provide a positive force for change, encouraging innovation and development at all levels in the organisation and ensure that the organisation is fit for purpose in an evolving environment.

“The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, a tenacious and experienced manager, and will have a track record of organisational change management and leadership,” it states. “The ability to build and nurture strategic relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, including the Forum of Postgraduate Training Bodies, the Department of Health, the Medical Council, the HSE and HIQA, will be very important.”

According to the ICGP, while a background in the health sector will be advantageous, it is not essential.
