[Editorial] Transforming cancer control in the USA

Allusions to armed conflict and hyperbolic grandstanding are no match for cancer. Decades after the US presidential declarations of the “war on cancer” and even with the aspirational “moonshot” initiatives to accelerate research, headway has been limited. Although remarkable developments in oncology treatments have been made possible through substantial investment, efforts directed toward the most basic elements of lowering the overall cancer burden, prevention and early diagnosis, have had less impact.
