[Editorial] Creating respectful health care for trans patients

Transgender people face substantial health and health-care disparities that are closely linked to stigma and discrimination. According to the charity Stonewall, 40% of trans people in Britain have had trouble accessing health care because of their gender identity and 32% have experienced unequal treatment by health-care staff. Last month, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) released a position statement on the role of GPs in caring for gender-questioning and trans patients that outlines the barriers to providing respectful and holistic care.
