Company to review ‘A Vision for Change’

30 Jan 2017

The first steps in developing a new mental health policy for Ireland have been taken with the appointment of Dublin-based research company the Work Research Centre (WRC) to carry out a review of Ireland’s current mental health policy A Vision for Change.

The WRC, in partnership with the London School of Economics, will undertake an evidence-based review of the implementation of the 2006 mental health strategy to see how future policy and services might be better directed. The review will also take account of emerging best practice, including issues surrounding current human rights and health and well-being.

In a statement, the Department of Health (DoH) indicated that the review was expected to be finalised in early 2017.

The DoH added that in line with the commitment given to the Dáil last October, an oversight committee would be established within three months of the review being finalised to oversee the development of a new policy for mental health based on the outcome of the expert review.
