This fact sheet presents and reviews statistics on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in child protection and out of home care. It features information on child abuse rates, most common types of maltreatment, child sexual abuse, and children living in out-of-home care, with comparisons with children from the general population. The fact sheet also discusses the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander Child Placement Principle in out of home care, why Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children are overrepresented in child protection data, and data limitations.
