Topic: Payment by Results (PbR) is a model of how money flows around the NHS and paid to hospitals for activity. From April 2017, a new system, Healthcare Resource Grouper 4+ (HRG4+) replaced the previous HRG4 for allocating reference costs. This is described as a ‘better currency’ because it identifies the level of comorbidity and complexity through a ‘complication score’ that reflects the varying costs incurred in treating patients at different levels.
