World Asthma Day 2015

5 May 2015

World Asthma Day 2015

World Asthma Day takes place each year on the first Tuesday in May.  The aim is to improve asthma care and awareness of asthma around the world.  To most people ‘breathtaking’ means unique or spectacular, to those with asthma the meaning is different; Asthma can literally take your breath away.  This year theme is ‘breathtaking’ to show how debilitating asthma is and how it can be managed.  The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) report, Longstanding Health Conditions among Three Year Old Children in the Republic of Ireland in 2011, shows that 15.8% of three-year-olds in Ireland – about 11,000 children – have at least one serious longstanding health condition.  In more detail, 9.5% have diagnosed asthma or asthma symptoms.
