DoH opens public consultation on legislative measures in relation to the sale of tobacco products and non-medicinal nicotine systems, including e-cigarettes

The Department of Health in the Republic of Ireland has opened this public consultation.  The drafting of this legislation was approved by the Government in June 2014.  The measures are in line with recommendations contained in Tobacco Free Ireland, Ireland’s policy on tobacco control.  The Department’s policy in relation to smoking is to move towards a tobacco free society by 2025. In practice this will mean a smoking prevalence rate of less than 5%.  A consultation paper setting out the details of the measures is available at http://health.gov.ie/blog/noticeboard/tobaccoconsultation2014/.  The closing date for views is Friday, 16th January 2015.
