Brain starts deteriorating at age 45

A study in the British Medical Journal suggests that brain function can start to decline as early as age 45 – more than a decade earlier than previously thought. The University College London researchers assessed the memory, vocabulary, and comprehension skills of 7,000 men and women aged 45 to 70. The study showed that cognitive scores declined in all categories except vocabulary – with a faster decline in older people. Impaired cognitive performance is a warning sign for dementia highlighting the importance of early intervention to ward off premature mental decline.
